Student senate and National Honor Society (NHS) work around the school to try to make it better not just for themselves but for the other students as well. These officers are elected as representatives of the students who are consistently working on projects to better the school.
“We do a lot of big projects. So we will run homecoming, we run other events throughout the year, and we do a lot of student body movements,” senior Madeline Bildeaux said.
NHS helps with homecoming and they help decide when the dance happens. That way they know the day and time of when they want homecoming to happen.
“We are getting into a busy homecoming season so we are in charge of planning the whole dance which is a lot of work and has a lot of moving parts,” Bildeaux said.
Student senate also helps with homecoming, but they are in charge of choosing the theme and how it should be decorated by coming up with ideas within the classroom.
“I’d say the main thing We have to do in senate is come up with ideas…homecoming we have a big part in,” senior Aidan Orth said.
Senate doesn’t just come up with ideas for homecoming though; they also come up with ideas for games, shirts, and pep rallies and games at lunch as well.
“We run the pep rallies and if there’s a project going on at lunch, Senate runs that have a big part in homecoming and homecoming shirts.Any shirts that are for the homecoming spirit week we create. We have a bunch of different new shirts coming in for homecoming. ” Orth said.
While senate does a lot for homecoming, they are leaders outside of the school as well. “Senate helps school with being a leadership community for everyone that doesn’t really get to speak up when they can’t and I feel like we do a good job of like trying to include everyone and making the kids that sit alone at lunch have something to do at lunch or the kids that don’t want to go home because they don’t have a good home life they can come to games and stuff so I think that’s what we do that’s good,” senior Raegan LaCross said.
Helping students is very important to the senate especially with the students who feel like they don’t have a voice.
“Like I said before, I think it helps the kids that don’t really have a voice in the school and we kind of make the high school fun for people and it’s not just always about learning,” LaCross said.
