The upcoming presidential election comes at a time when our country is deeply polarized. Both candidates remain firm in their platforms and seldom agree on any issue. With little to no overlap in policy, I find the choice clear: Kamala Harris is the leader that America needs.
Kamala’s extensive background as an attorney general and senator has given her plenty of leadership experience, readying her for the honor and challenge that comes along with the presidency. Additionally, her embodiment of the American dream allows her to sympathize with the needs of the middle class, where the majority of our populace lies. Trump, on the other hand, grew up wealthy, never truly understanding an average American’s life. If he’s never experienced it, what makes him a good candidate for fixing its issues?
In terms of policy, she is a strong advocate for a woman’s right to choose when it comes to abortion. According to The Hill, after Roe v. Wade was overturned, she crisscrossed the country, visiting both red and blue states, meeting with activists, providers, and women impacted by the ensuing abortion bans. Trump, however, prided himself on reversing the ruling, effectively making abortion illegal in 13 states.
Liberals are generally criticized for wanting to raise taxes. However, Kamala’s tax policy gives tax cuts to those who need them most: the working class. She has proposed an expansion of the small business tax credit, increasing it from a mere $5,000 to $50,000. She also supports expanding the child tax credit to support new families who have previously struggled. Finally, she understands the difficulty of buying a home in today’s market and supports a $25,000 down payment assistance program to aid this demographic. Rather than identifying a subset of the populace that needs assistance, Trump promotes nationwide tax cuts. His policies disproportionately help the wealthy while giving little regard to national debt.
Border security is a top priority for many Americans in this upcoming election, and Kamala has taken a lot of criticism over her handling of the border throughout her tenure. Few mention the bipartisan border security bill, though, that was proposed during Biden’s administration. This bill, which would have funded the hiring of fifteen hundred new border agents, was shot down by former president Trump. He rallied up his party to block its passing, all so he could run on the issue rather than solve it.
In short, we have two starkly different candidates running for office. On one side, the first female Vice President of the United States, who prioritizes equality and promotes freedom. On the other, a selfish man who doesn’t understand the needs of the American people. Let’s face it, the presidency might just be one of those “black jobs.” Make the right choice and elect Kamala Harris as the next president of the United States. We’re not going back!
