As the days continue to get shorter and the workload from classes gets piled up, students are in desperate need of a fall break. Students with sports and extracurriculars hold an even bigger amount of stress as they try to balance them with school. Staff and students are in need of a recharge. A week break during the fall would give students time to rest and relax for a little bit of time. Fall break could also provide extra time for students to spend time with their loved ones, as during the school season, it’s hard for families to come together because of their busy schedules.
“I think we need a fall break because it’s a long time to go without a break until Thanksgiving break,” senior Caden Stoops said.
Between the beginning of the school year in September to the end of November is a long time to go without a break from school being a student. With this large amount of time, a break could definitely fit in there.
“Fall break would be nice, but a piece of that would come into consideration because some of the break would cut into June, so it’s that balancing act of do we want some time off in the fall and go later or just push through to all get out at the end of June,” math teacher Mrs. Thompson said.
Just as snow days would cut off some summer days in June, an additional break in the fall time would also cut off summer days in June. Some students and teachers feel like they can push through the first 3 months of the school year, while other people feel like they need a break.
“Students deserve a fall break because all the other states have a fall break and I feel like we are the only one that doesn’t have a fall break,” freshman Harper Burkholder said.
While other states and cities have fall breaks incorporated in their school system, West does not have a fall break in the calendar. The Pathfinder school in Traverse City decides to take a fall break from Oct. 28 through Nov. 1.
“I think students deserve a fall break because I don’t like doing school that much and it would be a good time to study,” sophomore Mosie Weir said.
Fall break could be a good time for students to get caught up with work, homework, or even studying. It would also give students some time to relax and catch up on sleep.
“I am so tired of school and I am exhausted, I want the break to be as long as it can be,” Burkholder said.
