On the first Saturday of every month, the Petsmart parking lot becomes a collection site for old bottles and cans. These cans are collected by the TC Paw Cat Rescue team and they use the money from the cans to support the cats that they help find homes for.
“It happens monthly on the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. until noon in the Traverse City Petsmart parking lot,” Lisa Chimner said.
Chimner is the president of the TC Paw Cat Rescue and she helps organize all the events. The TC Paw Cat Rescue company has these events because they are a charity solely funded by donations from the community.
“The goal is to raise funds to help care for homeless cats! If you look at our website, you can see more information about the rescue, including our mission statement,” Chimner said.
On their website, you can find information about all the events they have, where you can donate, and the cats that they have up for adoption. Their website also lists volunteer opportunities for students and members of the community.
“We have students help with special events such as the “Pawty in the Park,” [a] music event we had in F&M Park in September,” Chimner said.
Students can help this company with achieving their goals in many ways. Students can help out a variety of events, including the Cans for Cats event previously mentioned.
“We also use students as adoption coordinator assistants – They help the adoption coordinators during adoption hours at Petsmart. This entails introducing cats to potential adopters in the cattery and assisting with whatever the adoption coordinators need help with,” Chimner said.
