With constant pressure regarding college acceptances, many seniors feel the need to take up several leadership positions to beef up their resume. However, many high schoolers lack the drive, motivation and natural skill to steer others into success – unlike senior Honorae Shore. Shore exhibits traits that provide guidance to the school, establishing herself as a role model for students across all ages through a multitude of clubs and extracurriculars.
“I am the president of the Model UN Club here at [the school], I also am the president of the Global Studies Community, I’m also the parliamentarian in the NHS and I am a part of the Senate. When you’re part of the Senate, you’re a leader in the school, so I’d say that’s just a leadership role in and of itself, even though it’s not an exec board position,” Shore said.
Shore has been a part of senate leadership since her junior year, which has supplied her with skills she can attribute to other activities, such as Model UN. Being able to work collaboratively and find balances between contrasting characters are essential qualities to being a leader and will come in handy for Shore in the future.
“She has the ability to work with different personality types, which is a crucial component in anything, but especially politics. She really focuses on the end goal and helps invite and pull in everyone. You are not allowed to be a wallflower around her,” librarian and Model UN advisor Genevieve Minor said.
Although personal success can be rewarding, Shore is the type of student who is able to harness the skills of others around her to ensure team success over individual. The unique skill to bring others together and push them to their fullest potential is evident in Shore. This has helped her achieve her various leadership roles and success in her endeavors.
“Honorae constantly strives to improve herself. I have seen her grow immensely as a person and leader since her sophomore year. She is compassionate and dynamic and is always willing to step aside and allow a more junior member to take on the role of a country with more power or resources. Honorae is a rare type of student who puts the growth of her club and its members above her desire for awards and success,” English teacher and former Model UN advisor Aimee Cole said.
As she closes the door on her high school chapter, Shore looks to the future as an opportunity to cultivate these leadership skills further. Dreaming of going into politics, Shore’s abundant participation in school associations will guide her onto the path she wants to take, the end goal being to land a seat in the presidency.
“I’m going to be attending MSU next year. I will be going to the James Madison college. I’m studying political science and pre-law, hopefully ending up going into law in general and maybe some UN stuff in the future, just in case I don’t want to settle with law. Eventually, I’ll switch to politics and hopefully run for president one day, so, vote for me,” Shore said.
