From captain of the varsity swim team to the 2025 representative of the STEM academic community, senior Kira Adams has made an incredible impression on West Senior High in her four years. Adams has done everything in her power to make a positive impact on the students, staff, and community members she will be leaving behind when she opens the next chapter of her life after high school. However, her proudest accomplishment is her work that she has done with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the people she has affected with it.
“Big Brothers Big Sisters, being a part of that organization, it’s so impactful for the two little girls that I’ve had,” Adams said.
Furthermore, Adam’s impact has reached beyond the TCAPS distinct lines.
“As the President of the Women in Business Club she has brought in local leaders in the community to speak with young women considering a career in business or a leadership role in any career field,” Counselor Jennifer Lee said.
Not only has Adams had exceptional extracurricular success, but she has also managed to keep her grades and academics in top shape, which is no easy task.
“Not only does she take the most challenging advanced placement courses, she has earned a perfect 4.0 and wrote 4 and 5’s on each AP test, earning her the recognition of AP Scholar with Distinction,” Lee said.
Academics are extremely important to Adams, so much so that she has earned a full- ride scholarship to the University of Michigan. This not only had an incredible effect on Adams, but also on her family, her greatest motivation.
“I just want to make my family proud and I really aim to succeed and do well in life,” Adams said.
In reality, Adams always knew that she wanted to, and could, make a change in the world, and that is exactly what her mission has been. A natural-born leader and a mental drive to succeed are two key components to Adams’s success.
“I feel like I always wanted to go far and see how much I could do, and I love helping people and being around people, so I feel like the clubs and the community aspects and the leadership aspect just came naturally to me,” Adams said.
Adams’s achievements and successes have not gone unnoticed, earning her significant recognition from the school and the community.
“In the 21 years I have been a counselor at WSH, Kira stands out as one of the truly exceptional. She is driven and strives for excellence in all aspects of her life,” Lee said.
Another key component to Adams success has been her involvement in the STEM community, without STEM, Adams would not have achieved some of her proudest accomplishments. For example, her internship with a local dentist office.
“Through the STEM community I got an internship with a dentist office. I did a two week internship there. I have also learned a lot, I never would have known about the STEM wing if I wasn’t involved in STEM, I had access to the stem building and i feel like I’ve learned and gotten a lot of opportunities from that,” Adams said.
As far as advice goes, Adams has a lot. However, her key piece of advice to those wanting to succeed like her is to stay organized and to stay on top of things. Even if you have a lot going on, staying organized is a good way to not overwhelm yourself, while also taking time for yourself and being social.
“You have to be willing to put in the time and effort, you can’t just do things halfway, you have to really care about what you’re doing too, whether you’re doing it for yourself or you’re doing it for the people you are impacting, you have to really care. Stay on top of it but also have fun at the same time., I wouldn’t have been able to do any of it if I didn’t have a social life too and have fun with the people around me,” Adams said.
