From the choir room to the stage, senior Kate Zuidersma is always putting in her best work. Zuidersma’s senior year included front-and-center roles in theater, musical and choir. She will continue this path after high school and study classical voice at Baldwin Wallace college.
“My most favorite memories are doing the musicals every year. Those are the strongest bonds I have made. And that is the most fun for me to do,” Zuidersma said.
As Zuidersma graduates, she will never forget where she started in high school: meeting her friends with a hardworking and compassionate personality. She will always encourage others to try theatre, just as she did.
“Well for one thing, she just gained confidence. Kate has just become more comfortable in her own skin on stage by becoming a character. It has just grown every year, as we just get more comfortable as who we are, we get more comfortable on stage as well,” Zuidersma’s theater and musical theater, Minda Nyquist said.
From freshman to senior, Zuidersma has made an impact in this department. Many Titans today look up to her as a role model from her kind personality. However, one person in particular will miss her mostly from this department.
“Yes, for sure [I will miss her]. I am really supportive that she is leaving, but happy to see what she will achieve,” K. Zuidersma’s sister, sophomore Natalie Zuidersma, said.
Zuidersma introduced N. Zuidersma into the world of theatre and it changed her time at high school. Natalie will forever miss the time she got with Kate backstage during the musicals—and the Taco Bell runs.
“It feels bittersweet [leaving West] for sure, I have a lot of memories here. I have fully engrained myself into the performing arts museum. So that’s the most bittersweet part, is leaving something I have worked so hard on,” K. Zuidersma said.
