Should Honors Cords Be Worn at Graduation?

YES, they SHOULD be able to be worn at graduation

Honors cords date back to the 14th century in order to show the levels of education each person had. In the modern world today, students walk across the stage wearing the cords that they earned in all four years of highschool. Those cords could represent their good grades, clubs and community service that they have been a part of. As well as their field of work that they will be going into, being a part of the honors society, being in music or theater and other achievements they got in school.

Many people believe that honors cords should not be worn at graduation. And that honors cords might leave others out, or make them feel less of a person because they might not have the amount of cords as others do. However, if you’re so worried about how many cords you have, then you should have tried a little harder to get good grades. Cords show accomplishments and you don’t like the amount you have then maybe evaluate the goals that you were working towards.

All cords are different. The cords in college show your GPA and what profession that you are going into. I can understand that a GPA is your personal information, but being able to be noticed for good grades in college is a very prestigious thing. Also, being able to show people your field of choice is very honorable, especially if it’s a job that you have worked hard to get.

Based on grades and academics during high school, many are able to get scholarships from their future colleges. Having these scholarships can take lots of money off of your college tuition. Having good grades is the main product to getting noticed by colleges, and getting cords.

High school is an opening to so many different things. There are so many different clubs and sports that students can be involved in. Many students are very fond of their clubs and enjoy wearing the cord across the stage in order to show that they were a part of a club. For students to be proud of themselves by showing off their grades, clubs, and future professions is rewarding. Good behaviors should be rewarded.
