Extraction is a show that came out February 10. You can find this series on Hulu and Fox. It is where 12 people compete in the wilderness of British Columbia Canada for a reward of $250,000 if you win. The survivalists with no experience compete against each other until one survivalist is remaining. They get to choose two people to help them, mainly family or friends to help compete with them to get them supplies. The two selected people stay in HQ (Headquarters) with other families competing against each other in supply drops. Throughout the show each family faces tough decisions and challenges. The only way the survivalist can get out of the wilderness is by the chosen two people in HQ that extract them using the extraction card of the survivalist and pressing the red extraction button. Once the survivalist is out they no longer get the chance of winning the $250,000. Throughout the show families also have to work together and make difficult decisions on who gets an item and who doesn’t. Every Monday, a new episode is posted. During the time in HQ, the families can watch and hear their own survivalist with live feed cameras, but the survivalists get no communication from their families in HQ. When a challenge is going to happen a warning noise goes off requiring all families in HQ report to the control room where the live feed videos with the overhead big screen is of all survivalists and says what challenge is. The main challenges are supply drops and Hunting challenges. For the supply drops it alway varies between the families picking for their survivalist or others picking for their survivalist. In some cases one of the challenges is picking for other people but not everyone gets supplies. For the hunt, family members must memorize a map and direct them on how to get there. If they fail their survivalist will go to the wrong area and waste calories by going to the wrong spot. Making it difficult to get to sources. The first one to the source can take as much as they want or they choose an item depending on the challenge. People in HQ can see the other contestants and when they are on the big screen everyone can hear what they say, making people aware of the competition they are up against and hearing what the survivalist has to say unaware if they are on the big screen stirring up how the families think of each other in HQ. Throughout the show families in HQ can see who the main competition is and who is not the main competition based on the big screen. On the big screen in HQ after challenges they show the survivalist heart rate and how close they are from needing to be extracted , showing a scale from healthy state to extreme. This scale has four colors: green meaning healthy, yellow meaning decline or issues, orange is possible medical attention and red meaning they might need to be extracted if it gets worse or if the red doesn’t go down for the person. In the show extraction families struggle with seeing their family struggle while watching in HQ and that can lead to families being extracted. Other ways people might extract their survivalist is if they can’t handle the competition in HQ or if the survivalist isn’t doing good. Otherwise if the survivalist is asking to be extracted the family in HQ will think about it and they think if the person can still survive or not depending on how the person is doing in the wilderness.
