On March 20, 2026, country music icon Luke Combs released his new album, “The Way I Am”. This album is another milestone and a symbol of success in Combs’ country music career, as he makes history with some of his biggest hits to date.
Before the album’s release, Combs previewed eight of the songs from the album. Two of these songs, “Sleepless in a Hotel Room” and “Days Like These,” claimed the number one and two spots on Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart. This is only the second time in history that an artist has claimed the top two spots simultaneously with no collaborators in either song. The first time was also Combs with his hit songs “Love You Anyway” and his cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” from his 2023 album “Gettin’ Old.”
This album features songs for many different moods. Songs like “Alcohol of Fame,” “My Kinda Saturday Night,” “Back in the Saddle,” and “Tell ‘Em About Tonight” are the loud, adrenaline-rushing music that Combs’ fans know and love. Songs like “15 Minutes,” “Wish Upon a Whiskey,” and “I Ain’t No Cowboy” are examples of the slow and sad country songs that Combs offers from the new album. One of the other mainly focused emotions covered in this album would be the romantic and catchy feeling in songs like “Be By You,” “Can’t Tell Me I’m Wrong,” and “Ever Mine (feat. Alison Krauss).”
What makes this album unique is that some of its songs share themes with Combs’ prior songs and albums. For example, one of the songs from this album, “The Me Part of You,” is about a son who will grow up and make some of the same mistakes his father made before him. The lyrics, “Yeah, I rode the same road / Boy, I’ve been in your boots / Yeah, I know me, and I know you,” display the same theme listeners will find in Combs’ “Fathers & Sons” album, released in 2024. Another similarity between Combs’ new and older music would be “Be By You” and “The Kind of Love We Make.” These two songs share a similar theme of love and romance through catchy lyrics like “Nothin’ beats that view / I guess when it comes down to / Is I just wanna be by you” from “Be By You” and “Well there ain’t no way, baby to get me out this house / When you look this good, what could I even think about?” from “The Kind of Love We Make.”
This album is arguably one of Combs’ best because of the different feelings each song covers. The album offers a sad, exciting, and romantic variety of sounds throughout, with catchy lyrics in each song.
