Over the past year, President Trump has been very busy completing his mission of “Making America Great Again.” From a stronger economy to safer streets, America is even better today than it was when President Trump was just elected.
Thanks to President Trump’s crackdown on crime, almost all violent crimes have dramatically decreased. For example, according to the Council on Criminal Justice, homicides in the U.S dropped 20% in 2025 compared to 2024. In addition, deaths by drug overdose dropped 21% according to the American Hospital Association. These are huge accomplishments. In the fall of 2025, the National Guard was sent to the most dangerous cities in our country to find the root of crimes and put dangerous people in jail where they belong. Although controversial, you can’t argue with the results. Americans are safer than they have been in years thanks to these policies.
Another percentage that has dropped by a substantial amount since last year is the number of illegal immigrants coming into our country. According to the U.S Customs and Border Protection, under the Trump Administration, the number of illegal immigrants entering the U.S has dropped by 93%. In addition to this, the Department of Homeland Security reported that in 2025, 2.5 million illegal immigrants left the country. This is only fair to the millions of people who have come in the right way. When immigrants follow the correct process when being let into the country, the government can at least ensure that they have no criminal past. That should be viewed as a plus, no matter where you land politically. At his State of the Union Address, Trump emphasized that he wants “people to come into our country in the largest numbers ever, but they have to come in legally.” This used to be a popular view among Democrats such as Obama and Clinton, but apparently, once Trump says something it becomes bigoted.
The trend of making sure things are fair to those who have earned it is consistent among the Trump administration. Over the past year, they have been tough on DEI policies to ensure that people are accepted into colleges and jobs based on more than skin color or gender. In March of 2025, President Trump signed an executive order to end DEI policies in the federal government. It is extremely important that jobs in the government, as with any other job, are given based on merit, not to fill a quota.
The past year has also seen improvements in the economy. Despite the drop the stock market faced immediately after the implementation of the Trump Administration’s reciprocal tariffs, it made a large rebound through the second half of the year, with the S&P 500 stocks growing nearly 39% since April, according to RBC Wealth Management. This is largely thanks to the One Big Beautiful Act that lowered taxes for the working class and promoted company growth by tax deductions. Healthy businesses, lower taxes, and a growing economy are all wins that the Trump Administration can flaunt as a way they have improved our country from the state it was in a year ago. In fact, at the State of the Union Address, it was said that we have achieved a “turnaround for the ages.”
President Trump is by no means perfect. However, it isn’t hard to see the progress made through his policies aimed at helping Americans and keeping them safe. He said it perfectly himself: “The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens.” Certainly, that is something we can all stand for.
